Valley Regional High School Additions and Renovations

After a study and successful passage of the funding referendum, this “Renovate as New” project by Tecton’s E3 Studio Director, James Lawler, FAIA, was performed concurrently with renovations to John Winthrop Middle School, for a combined project cost of $40 million. Both projects received approval from the Town on the same referendum!

A comprehensive phasing plan was created, with input from the entire team, to carefully coordinate the additions and renovations and assure student safety in the existing occupied school.

The renovation of the 115,000 square foot High School included upgrades to the front entrance, school offices, cafeteria, gymnasium, classrooms and circulation space. A new 22,250 square foot media center and performance complex were constructed, with auditorium, stage, lobby, and a new arts wing/theatre entrance. The original auditorium was renovated into instrumental and choral music instructional spaces. Arts classrooms and studios for the school’s award-winning arts program are also a part of the work. The project also included a 100% upgrade to the technology infrastructure, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, sprinkler systems, along with compliance with building an accessibility codes, and new roof and window replacement.
